CO-CREATED REGENERATE WHEAT RIDGE
Co-wrote $50K USNCD grant and program design which established Regenerate Wheat Ridge. Resulted in acquisition of land for 2nd community garden in District 2, institutionalization of regenerative ag education in Parks & Rec, and re-investment in District 2's Happiness Gardens as a demonstration garden and community hub. -
RESOLUTION CONDEMNING RACISM AND HATE AND ADDRESSING DISCRIMINATORY PROPERTY COVENANTS
Worked with 23 community members impacted by racism to draft Resolution 35-2020 A Resolution Condemning Racism and Hate, leading to the creation of a Racism and Equity Task Force, and subsequent adoption of all 37 task force recommendations. This work also led to proactively declaring Wheat Ridge's discriminatory covenants on property deeds illegal and unenforceable. -
CREATION OF "AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUND" TO IMPLEMENT CITY'S AFFORDABLE HOUSING STUDY & ACTION PLAN
Crafted policy to set aside tax revenue from Short Term Rentals ($500K/year) to create an Affordable Housing Fund; adopted in 2022 and utilized in 2023 for the city’s partnership with Foothills Regional Housing to purchase and renovate the city’s first deed-restricted 24 unit housing project for 50% - 80% AMI, located in District 2 and adjacent to transit, services, and schools. -
ADVOCATED FOR OVER $50M FOR SAFE WALKING AND BIKING INCLUDING DEDICATED SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL FUNDS
Met with Senators and House Reps in Washington, DC; advocated at Denver Regional Council of Governments; coordinated with Wheat Ridge Active Transportation Advisory Team to successfully allocate funding sidewalk gaps on Wadsworth, bike / ped facilities at Ward Station, and safety investments for 35th Ave. Successfully introduced SRTS set-aside funds from city budget. -
NATIONAL RECOGNITION AS AN "ALL-AMERICA CITY"

MEET RACHEL
As a 4th generation Colorado native, I know that great places are created over generations by combining vision and ongoing reinvestment from residents, businesses and community partners. My professional background in transportation policy, healthy community programming, development, affordable housing, real estate, and civic engagement contribute to a valuable skill set and a deep understanding of how cities work.
Since moving to Wheat Ridge in 2012, I've focused my community service on creating opportunities for others to get involved. From starting Wheaties Academy to build capacity in community leaders to hosting Pints & Policy to connect more residents with local policies and policy makers, I love rolling up my sleeves, pulling up a chair with my neighbors, listening, and then getting things done.
When I'm not on the dais, I enjoy spending time with my amazing high school senior son, riding my bike, gardening, swimming, and seeking out public art.
